Jim Kilgore's Profile

Name Profile Information
Jim Kilgore Jim is my name.

I was borne in the early 30\'s on an Arkansas hill top farm, oldest of 5. A time in which breakfast was the big meal of the day. We had everything from ham or bacon ( the two were of my father\'s own making) and eggs, with sides of potatoes or grits, with biscuits, (to die for) jelly and butter, and good cream or \"red eye\"gravy, depending on whither the meat was ham or bacon. Sometimes we had fried chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes and usually canned peas (mom\'s doing) or the like. I\'m sure that seems strange to you young folk, but in that time and that area, was normal....

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Here\'s why...

I was about 6 when I started helping with the morning chores. A good part of the year, the day started bout 5 AM for my mother, 6, for dad, and me, the oldest of their children. Mom had coffee ready and her sourdough biscuits started when we two got up. After the chores were done, breakfast was had at about 8 or 8:30.... Dinner (lunch to you) was noon or later and a fair sized meal too. Supper, (dinner to you) 6 PM or so, was sometimes, just cornbread and milk with dinner left overs, if any.

Cooking and eating is something I\'ve always loved to do. Had throat cancer. Radiation treatment damaged my taste buds and saliva glands. Still love to cook, share and collect recipes, but eating, is now a "chore." My wife and I still love to cook, collect and share new recipes.

Jim
