Pare cucumbers, and cut them into pieces as thick as a silver dollar. Dry 
them in a cloth; season with pepper and salt and sprinkle thickly with 
flour. Melt some butter in a frying pan. When it bubbles, put in the 
cucumber slices and fry until a light brown.
